“Colorado’s Saguache County Adopts ‘Emergency Regulations’ Allowing Warrantless Entry"

Updated: Oct 13, 2021

That’s part of the headline in a recent online article.

The full headline is:

“Colorado’s Saguache County Adopts ‘Emergency Regulations’ Allowing Warrantless Entry to Private Property and Preventing Sale of Firearms and Ammo”

It’s disturbing and appears to go against every fiber of what our nation is founded upon. The county in question, Saguache, is a very rural county in Colorado with few people, about 7,000. Typically, such places are quite conservative, but the Emergency Regulations they crafted seem anything but.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to the people responsible for creating our form of government:

1. The founders were extremely well-read individuals who had an intimate understanding of human nature and the motivations and consequences of a tyrannical leader.

2. We now live in a modern age that has surpassed those almost-primitive times.

I prefer the former (number 1).

So why would a BOCC (comprised of three commissioners) vote to give themselves extraordinary powers over their citizens, to the point of allowing government to enter private property without a warrant and deny citizens their right to purchase supplies and defend themselves?

Fear.

It’s important to understand that when fear exists, people attempt to control the situation. In other words: Control is a reaction to fear.

Conservativism is about “self-empowerment.” That means we expect our community to come together during an emergency situation. We expect people to help when such is needed. That’s why you see so many fine leaders in our community give to so many causes.

Conservativism rejects the idea of imposing authoritarian control over people during times of crises. The following is an excerpt from a well-sourced website that describes this “phenomenon” happening within our society:

“Fear is at the core of modern liberalism, and love/trust is at the core of conservatism. Modern liberalism, most commonly evolved to leftism, is about control. Conservatism is about self-empowerment.

"Control is a reaction to fear. Think in terms or politics and society – the fear behind liberalism is the fear that someone might withhold things (opportunities, money, whatever) from me, fear that if you live your life in a way I dislike that it might affect my life, fear that if you get that job, there will be nothing left for me. Fear that if you make tons of money, it means there’s less money out there for me. So people who believe in leftist ideologies seek control as a means of trying to create guarantees and safeguards against those circumstances they fear.

"Modern 'liberals', leftists, try to control the world and people to enable their comfort and happiness. Which, as we know, is an endless quest. Trying to control others does nothing in the way of making oneself happy. By extension, voting in this mindset so that government can try to control others will also – shocking – not lead to a happier, more comfortable life.”

Guess which political party those three County Commissioners are affiliated with?

Hint: Not Republican.
